Ukulele Tuning Notes & Frequencies Chart (Complete Pitch Reference)

Published by Ukulele Tuners Editorial Team•6 min read•Standard A440 Pitch

Whether you are calibrating a digital audio workstation (DAW), fine-tuning a microphone pitch detector, or setting up a new set of strings, knowing the exact physical frequencies (in Hertz) for every ukulele note gives you complete control over your instrument's intonation.

1. Standard Ukulele Tuning (gCEA)

Soprano, Concert & Tenor

Standard tuning is re-entrant: the 4th string (G4) is tuned higher than the 3rd string (C4). Standard international concert pitch references A4 = 440.00 Hz.

2. Low G Ukulele Tuning (GCEA)

Linear Tenor & Concert

In Low G tuning, the 4th string is dropped an entire octave from G4 (392 Hz) to G3 (196 Hz), creating a pure linear ascending scale.

3. Baritone Ukulele Tuning (DGBE)

Guitar Top-4 Match

Baritone ukuleles feature longer scale lengths (19 to 21 inches) and are tuned to the exact pitches of the top 4 strings of an acoustic guitar.

4. English D-Tuning (aDF#B)

Traditional Vintage Vaudeville

Popular in the 1920s and still widely used in Canadian and British school music programs, D-Tuning tightens all strings one full step (two semitones) higher for extra projection and crispness on small soprano ukuleles.

Frequency Reference FAQs

Why is A4 set to 440 Hz?

In 1939, an international conference established 440 Hz for the A above Middle C (A4) as the worldwide standard pitch (Concert Pitch / Stuttgart pitch). All modern digital tuners and audio gear calibrate relative to this standard.

Can I tune my ukulele to 432 Hz?

Yes, some musicians prefer the slightly lower, warmer resonance of A=432 Hz. When calibrated to 432 Hz, all strings shift flat by approximately 31.8 cents: G4 becomes 384.87 Hz, C4 becomes 256.87 Hz, E4 becomes 323.63 Hz, and A4 becomes 432.00 Hz.
